Hybrid Events-The New Normal

There is a before and after COVID-19 for the UK MICE, Events and Hospitality Industries.

The impact of the pandemic lockdown has been huge – not just health-wise, but economically, particularly for these industries.

During this unprecedented time, people have quickly adapted to a remote way of work and play through the use of technology. Hybrid events have also been some of the trends that have emerged. Trade show, incentives, conferences, seminars, forums, workshops or other meetings have become partially "live" in-person events and "virtual" online events.

The Hybrid New Normal

A survey conducted by etc.venues on 29th July 2020, where 1,215 event planners worldwide attended the second Hybrid Events Masterclasses, shows that 95% of event planners may organise a hybrid event this year. At the beginning of July 2020, 73% of those surveyed were willing to do a hybrid event this year. This trend rise of 22% in only a matter of weeks, confirms the importance of Hybrid events as a solution for the unforeseen panorama within the MICE and Events & Hospitality industry.

Even more interesting, is the fact that 34% of the same scrutinised audience confirmed that they are already organising a hybrid event with another 61% already in the decision-making-process for it.

During this second in a row etc.venues Events Masterclasses, a range of topics including the best ways to engage events that combine virtual and in-person attendees and the application of hybrid hubs and networking to bring audiences across were covered.

Nicholas Hoare, COO of etc.venues.

The COO of etc.venues, Nicholas Hoare,  stated: “It is really interesting and encouraging to learn that planners’ confidence levels in hybrid events have grown significantly – and rapidly – over a relatively short time-frame. It is also a good sign that planners want to get back into meeting rooms and see the hybrid as a route offering greater flexibility.”

“We all know the power of live events and it is clear that planners, despite recent restrictions, are focused on keeping that crucial face-to-face and live element in virtual events, which is fundamental to their success.”
