Change People Lives
Its been a challenging time for all of us over the last few months and with the sad loss of some of our colleagues moving onto new chapters in their careers, it has meant a surplus of PC's in our office. I am delighted to say this story has a silver lining and an outcome that is helping to change peoples lives. Richard Major and his fantastic team at Supported Computing work with a local charity based in Ferndown-Dorset called Community Friends who are putting our old PC's to good use.
Community Friends (a registered charity) is a voluntary support organisation set up to help local residents in Bournemouth by giving their time and raising funds to improve facilities and provide equipment for the benefit of the people in the local community. They get involved in all sorts of things! Recent examples range from raising money to set up local medical clinics, providing bandages to the leg ulcer clinic or other necessary equipment, to providing PCs for young people without access to one, and that's where we can help.
We pass PC's we no longer need to Richard and his team, who refurbish them and then send them over to Community Friends. All the team at venuedirectory.com are passionate about recycling and reducing landfill and whilst others might add to this, we see it as our responsibility to reuse and recycle.
In the strange times we live in, these PC's are a tremendous help to young people who are learning at home either through structured teaching or through homeschooling and otherwise wouldn't have access to this equipment. It's wonderful that despite these difficult and sometimes trying times we are still able to support our local charities and lovely to see positive outcomes that really do help others.
We would encourage all our friends and colleagues in the industry to think about this and if you have some old PC's that you cannot use maybe the guys at Ferndown Community friends could make good use of them, or search locally for your local PC's recycle centre, you can really change lives very easily.
