I joined Bannatyne's in summer '09 and was initially very impressed by the high standard of instruction, the spaciousness and the range of facilities. It is now March '09 and although the instructors and classes remain pretty great, the club's recent - and some would say rather greedy - policy of trying to stuff as many new members as possible into an already very busy gym is taking its toll. Altogether a visit to Bannatyne's Falkirk is a far less pleasant experience compared to just six months ago. Classes are massively oversubscribed. To get into many classses you must book a week in advance and should you fail to set your alarm to make your booking 7 days beforehand, and when the gym opens at 6.30am (!), chances are you won't get in. Meanwhile, the water fountain in the spin studio hasn't worked for weeks, the tiles on the shower floor are cracked and broken and in need of repair and hair straighteners in the changing rooms lie unrepaired. It's pretty galling to queue for a shower in the changing rooms, jostle for a place in oversubscribed classes, witness the disrepair and watch as new members continue to flood in...while this gym apparently coins it in with all those new membership fees. This gym must be making alot of money, but it certainly isn't reflected in member care. And that's despite each member paying a hefty monthly fee of £50.
